All About Me!

Hi everyone!
My name is Tabatha Holstein but everyone calls me Nikki. I am originally from Greensboro North Carolina but moved to West Virginia mid way through school. I graduated from South Charleston High School and currently reside in Saint Albans Wv.  I am in my third year of college and just transferred from Marshall University so this is my first semester at West Virginia State. I am earning my degree in Elementary Educations and want to get a masters in Administration.

I hope to learn how to integrate music into my course work to make learning fun and upbeat for my students. I believe no matter what subject music can play a huge part in learning. I really do not have much music skills other than a few things from when I was in school, I was in band as well as all county choir. I do love to sing very loudly in my car if that counts for anything lol but never where anyone can truly hear me. My concerns for this course is that is is my first online class with a new college so I am feeling a little lost, hopefully I will get the hang of it soon! Other than the info required I also have two step children  that I love very much as well as an amazing fiancĂ©.

We just bought a house here in Saint albans a year ago and settles in with our munchkins, three cats, two dogs, two birds and a turtle. Needless to say we have a house full! I also have a very unusual job for the moment but I love it because I get to help people and I am very passionate about that. I am a family service consoler at a local cemetery so I help people pre arrange their estates, as well as at the time of death. Any little thing I can do to make someones day/time easier thats what I want to do, I love to make a difference!

  1. Welcome to WVSU! I went to Marshall my first year out of school in 2001, then transferred to WVSU the next semester and I have never regretted that decision. This online course will be a bit different than any other--you'll have a blog plus online content through Sakai. I've never used Sakai before either, so we'll learn together!

I am glad you've spoken frankly about your concerns with this course. I love that you want to learn how to use music to make learning more fun and upbeat, but I want to challenge you: Instead of using the words fun and upbeat to describe music's role in your future classroom, try using meaningful and relevant. If learning is meaningful and relevant first, it will automatically be fun and upbeat!

Welcome to class Nikki! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me!

  2. Hi Nikki! I also went to Marshall for a short period of time, but eventually made my way back to WVSU and I love it. I am certain that you will enjoy it as well. I am also a little nervous about taking this online course and using Sakai. Hopefully it wont be too challenging and we will get the hang of it quickly.

I think we also have EDUC 200 together so I'm sure I will be seeing you around quite often. I enjoyed your blog, and it was nice to "meet" you. I'll be seeing you around!
